Understanding Karat Grades
24K = 99.9% pure. 22K = 91.6% (916 hallmark). 21K = 87.5%. 18K = 75%. Every karat step down means significantly less gold — and significantly less value per gram. Know what you have.
How Under-Karat Fraud Works
More copper and silver is mixed in to reduce gold content while a higher karat is stamped. On a 100-gram bridal set, the difference between 22K and 18K is approximately Rs. 100,000 at current rates.
